Nayar barsa ko suba kamana – Happy New Year!

April 13 Day 1

Yesterday was the first day of 2073! Cathy and I had a nice breakfast in the garden at our Hotel, Hotel Metropolitan Kantipur,  and then walked around our neighbourhood. There is everything you could need and more here. We looked at some beautiful silk and cashmere scarves, walked passed many a hiking/camping gear store, bought some Nepalese books, ate food and I got some fabric for kirtas and took it to the tailor. He was very kind and will rush order my kirtas so that I have them when I travel to Mugu.

In the evening we were invited to a meeting with some of the members of MIDSON and some British midwives. At the dinner they were able to their share experiences working in Nepal with Cathy and I, and we were able to tell them about our program and work. The main discussion at dinner was about the recent work to try and establish midwifery curriculums at a few universities in Nepal. Both Cathy, and 3 of the British midwives will meet with MIDSON and the curriculum development coordinator this week to provide feedback. I will have the privilege of listening in and watching the strengths and challenges of trying to rally support for midwifery and develop suitable curriculum to meet the needs of Nepalese women and the standards set out by the International Congress of Midwives (ICM).
